II Corinthians 9:15, “Thanks be
unto God for his unspeakable gift.”
Grace
transliterated is “Charis,” it means: to rejoice, favor, acceptance, a kindness
granted or desired, a benefit, thanks, gratitude, favor done without expectation
of return; absolute freeness of the loving-kindness of God to men finding its
only motive in the bounty and free-heartedness of the giver; unearned and
unmerited favor. God’s grace affects man’s sinfulness and not only forgives the
repentant sinner, but also brings joy and thankfulness to him.
Unspeakable in the Greek is an-ek-dee-ay’-gay-tos; it means indescribable and is
derived from a Greek word meaning, to narrate through wholly. The alpha prefix
before a word makes it negative. Thus, unspeakable means that we cannot narrate
through wholly the unspeakable gift of God.
That
is the punch line of the real Christmas story.
On a
more personal note, I thank God for you, this church family. Words fail me to
express my appreciation and gratitude for your love and generosity toward me and
Honey-Lamb. I am thankful for the way that you have accepted us and so readily
made us a part of the church family. I am thankful for the way that everyone is
so willing to do his/her part in the work and ministry of the church; many hands
make light work. I am thankful for the opportunity to serve God by serving as
your pastor. I look forward to many years of ministry together with you.
Merry
Christmas to you and yours.
May
God bless our efforts to serve Him.
o serve Him.
